Short Bio
Amy Brodie Osborne is a Watercolor and Acrylic Artist born and raised in Oregon. She Studied art and Spanish at Portland State University and at University of Guadalajara. Her career has been in marketing, graphic design and reprographics. A strong emphasis on watercolor landscapes is found in Amy’s early works; but having seen many frescos while studying in Mexico, her abstracts may reflect an admiration of the Muralists. Overall, her style and subject matter range from large, complex abstracts evocative of feelings to simple, natural tones in serene organic landscapes. The skills grounded in her watercolor roots can be seen in her acrylic paintings, and Amy has received awards in juried shows while exhibiting paintings in galleries and museums across the Pacific Northwest. Many of her paintings are in private collections internationally. With her art studio in her home, Amy maintains her artistic roots and resides in Washington County, Oregon. She continues to grow through independent studies and workshops. Amy also teaches abstract art and color theory workshops.
Statement
“I work in both acrylic and watercolor. My style and subject matter range from large, complex abstracts evocative of feelings to simple, natural tones in serene landscapes. My paintings reflect my roots in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. I believe art is healing; it should make you feel something; perhaps an emotional transition. I feel that a painting morphs and tells me what it will become; each piece has a sequential process and simply comes alive. It takes me on a journey or recollection, a dream or memory. Often, a painting determines its own completion point, direction or feel. The piece may not be what I envisioned and I’m ok with that if it makes us figure things out. Drawn to nature’s detail and mood, I receive inspiration from personal experiences, the people in my life, God and music. I don’t ask viewers what they see in my paintings, I ask them what they feel. I’m honored to know your thoughts and feelings when you look at one of my pieces."
